Folding and cooling Empty
PostSubject: Folding and cooling   Folding and cooling EmptySun Jun 06, 2010 2:00 pm

Well It's getting into summer and I'm still working on my build and now that we are in summer the rooms are starting to heat up my temps

Folding and cooling Summertemps

Not so sure yet but Thinking about getting a couple extra toys, was looking at the Prolomitech MK13 because as I upgrade my gpu it can mount to pretty much every gpu up to a 470 but with the heat issues on those whores I been hearing so much about they have me looking at the 200 series still, get rid of that fkin refrence cooler already lol.

Also thinking about getting rid of that ugly goldish copper NB and getting a Thermalright HR-05/IFX then I don't have to worry about my temps getting high while I'm running F@H while at work on those nice sunny days.

I completely understand you about heat being a possible issue. I am to the point with the ambient temps here hitting 97f during the daytime and only dropping in the mid 80s at night. And I am starting to over power the AC. I am using the largest window unit the make for residential use. I will probably have to drop everything back to stock clocks shortly.

As long as your stay away from EVGA,,, there is absolutely no issues with heat output of the gtx470's... Most users on overclockers.net with EVGA Fermi cards have been re-flashing to the ASUS or Galaxy BIOS for the lower and more consistent voltages. The problem w/ EVGA (and Im very sorry to say this) is that their Quality Assurance has plummeted. Their 400 series GPUS are all over the place voltage wise. We have seen production model come in ranging from .998v-1.2V (which is higher than most OCing software will allow) With BFG and XFX out of the picture... The top FERMI manufacturers would be ASUS and Galaxy at the moment. They both have showed the most consistent clock speeds and voltages across the board. My shop has current stopped all sales of EVGA 400 series gpus until the issue has been resolved.
In all honesty... my 2x gtx470's w/ 28% over clocks run cooler than my old gtx275's ever did.
If your in the market... I would cherry pick one.... (Buy it/install it/ and make sure the OE voltage is below .995v -lower the better...; lowest Ive seen thus far is .875v---anything above .995/1v I'd send back/exchange) Hell; these cards will OC to over 800Mhz core with a voltage 1.050... I'm up to 825Mhz core @ 1.080v.
But.... so far a single gtx470 is only putting out approx 13k ppd on BETA 257 drivers... Will continue to tweek to see the maximum output

Yeah I really like the way Galaxy cards are showing out ASUS have always had what I liked and XFX.

my first GPU was a Evga and I never bought any of there stuff after simply because they became the Intel of GPU makers like Intel is to AMD.

Intel 6 core 1100$, AMD 6 core 300$.

back in the past it seemed Evga was one of the only companies giving a good warranty that made people want to buy there cards plus they were decent quality but of course they then pump up there price and like usual get cocky heh.

What my main focus is lately I been seeing GPU's go up on the market from all these different makers and the reference cooler is mainly on a lot of them but a few companies will place theres up with a non reference cooler on it that get's 15c or lower or so temps then the reference design but there price is maybe 10-15$ more in most cases then the reference design coolers I feel that the reference cards should be way lower by around 35-45$ cheaper then these non reference designs.

usually I see Evga have there cards up there in price offering nothing in class better then a couple other companies that will have a better cooling solution.

if the reference design cards where at I guess what I would say a real price we would be able to grab our own cooling solution via 3rd party and spend a little more or around the same you would for a card with a non reference cooler.

This is just from newegg which has some pretty good prices usually around the same or less then other sites.

the only thing I don't like about the Gigabyte card is the heat pipes are copper and I would dislike that color in my pc if I was going for a certain color scheme nickel plate that sucker and it would be pretty.

I chose the 465s sense they are the newest line up and have a couple non reference cards and some reference designs to choose from for my debate on the issue, as you can see Evga with there prices at the same with there reference cooler compared too Palit and GA non reference coolers and even have one at 20$ more, well I'm done for tonight it's 1:20am heh luckly no work tomorrow I can get some rest.

Dont be sad every contribution counts. Just cut back on your clocks and let the GPUs rest some. I am going to start taking mine offline from time to time during the hottest days of the summer. It only makes sense to save your hardware instead of pushing on.
